His area of expertise is in marine biogeochemistry and the cycle of elements in sea water and on sea bed. He holds a Ph.D in Zoology from the University of Georgia, as well as a Master’s Degree in Marine Science from the College of William and Mary and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the City College of New York. He is a member of the International Society for Coral Reef Systems, the American Society of Science in Limnology and Oceanography, and the International Society for Mangroves Ecosystems and Ecological Society of America. Upon reflecting on a rewarding career, Mr. Alongi attributes his success to hard work and persistence. His goals for the future are to write a science textbook and expand the work internationally in countries suffering from the same environmental issues—he looks forward to building up research relationships with other individuals within his field. In his spare time, Mr. Alongi enjoys reading and collecting rare books.
